How to make
Yerba Mate?

Yerba mate
The South American super drink! When you drink this you have energy and complete focus all day long. Yerba mate is a pure tea and is packed with good vitamins, minerals and antioxidants!

All what you need
have for mate
For each tea glass (2.50dl), put 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of yerba (tea) in the tea infuser or tea strainer.
Soak the tea infuser or tea strainer in a cup of cold water for a while. This is to protect the antioxidants. Put the tea bag, tea egg or tea strainer in your cup and pour just short of boiling water over the tea bag, tea egg or tea strainer.
Do not let it steep in the hot water for more than 4 minutes (the quality of the tea decreases if you leave it too long). The yerba increases considerably in volume when wet. So take as large a tea infuser as possible. If you use the tea-egg or tea strainer, you can drink the yerba mate with a bombilla if you don't like drinking the yerba that has come loose.
You can adjust the strength of the flavour of the tea by using more (stronger) or less (milder) yerba.
- Place the cafetière/tea press on a dry, flat, non-slip surface. Hold the handle firmly and pull the filter strainer unit straight up from the pot.
- Per tea glass (2.50dl), put 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of yerba or 1 measuring spoon of yerba (tea) in the cafetière/teapress. You can adjust the strength of the flavour of the tea by using more (stronger) or less (milder) yerba.
- Pour a little cold water over the yerba, this to protect the antioxidants. Then pour hot (just short of boiling) water into the pot. Leave at least 2.5 cm space up to the rim. Stir the mixture well with a spoon.
- Put the filter strainer unit on the pot but don't push the press filter down yet. Do not let the yerba steep in the hot water for more than 4 minutes (the quality of the tea decreases if you leave it too long).
- Hold the pot handle firmly and carefully and slowly push the press filter straight down into the pot. If the filter gets clogged or does not allow itself to be pushed down easily, pull the flter screen unit out of the pot, stir the mixture briefly and then slowly push the filter down again.
- Pour in the yerba mate. Enjoy!
Per tea glass (2.50dl), put 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of yerba (tea) in the tea filter or 20 to 40 grams of yerba per litre of water in the tea filter (2 to 4 full tablespoons). Pour a little cold water over the yerba mate to protect the antioxidants. Then hang the tea filter in the teapot/tea-glass and let it steep for no longer than 4 minutes (the quality of the tea decreases if you leave it too long). With the tea filter, you have almost no trouble with the yerba mate's loose dust. You can adjust the strength of the flavour of the tea by using more (stronger) or less (milder) yerba mate.
Per litre of water, put 20 to 40 grams of yerba mate in the coffee filter (2 to 4 full tablespoons). Pour a little cold water over the yerba mate to protect the antioxidants. Then proceed as you would coffee. Don't overfill the coffee filter because the yerba mate expands quickly and could flood the filter.
If you prefer not to use your coffee maker, you can also place a coffee filter holder on a teapot and pour the water into the filter with yerba by hand.
The filter means you have almost no trouble with the yerba mate's loose dust. You can adjust the strength of the flavour of the tea by using more (stronger) or less (milder) yerba mate.
